Bio

Dr. Jossée MacInnis, a clarinetist and educator whose journey began in Nova Scotia and now flourishes in the heart of Montreal. From an early age, Jossée was immersed in music, a legacy passed down from her mother, which eventually led her to the clarinet—an instrument that became her true calling.

Jossée’s academic achievements include a Doctorate in Clarinet Performance from Université de Montréal, where she refined her craft under the mentorship of distinguished musicians. Her professional career is a tapestry of diverse experiences: she founded Ensemble Atlantica, recorded the album Mnemonic Verses featuring new works by emerging composers, and performed with the Light of East Ensemble, exploring Greek, Turkish, and Middle Eastern music traditions. In 2019, she founded Kallisto, a fusion ensemble that blends Manouche, klezmer, jazz, and Middle Eastern styles, and she has since led the group to release Arcas (2023) and Tigris (2024).

Jossée's recent accomplishments include the formation of Zemertov, a new duo with a debut album titled Tchotchke (2024), and winning the Azrieli Scholarship at KlezKanada in both 2023 and 2024. She has performed at La Cenne Soirée Lanternes concert series and the Orientalys festival in Montreal with Persian accordionist Farzad Milani. Additionally, she successfully led Kallisto at KlezKanada's Yiddish Dance After Party in August 2024. Her work as a bass clarinetist with OVNI and as a clarinet professor at École Vincent-d'Indy and LUMI demonstrates her versatility in both performance and pedagogy. Jossée continues to push the boundaries of her artistry, with upcoming recordings and performances that promise to captivate and inspire.

Her clarinet carries stories, emotions, and a lifelong commitment to the transformative power of music, leaving an indelible mark on the world of contemporary and traditional music alike. For more information on Dr. MacInnis’s projects, or to explore her music, please feel free to reach out.
