Canada Music Week was established in 1960 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers' Associations. The celebrations were so successful that the following year, it was decided that the FCAPM Council would make Canada Music Week an annual event.
CMW goals include increasing public awareness of the importance of Canadian music, supporting composers and performers of Canadian music, introducing young Canadians to contemporary music, and enabling music teachers to deepen their knowledge of Canadian works.
