Sylvia Bruns Music Studio
Sylvia Bruns has lived and worked in Montreal for the past 25 years as recitalist, accompanist, and teacher. She has worked at McGill University, Marianopolis College, with the Orchestre Metropolitain, and with various chamber ensembles and singers. Sylvia has also worked as a church music director – playing the piano and organ, directing the choir, and organizing community concerts. She substitutes as a service musician in several Montreal churches.
Sylvia finds great joy and challenge in teaching students of various ages, levels and abilities. Her students have been prize-winners in local competitions and examinations, and several have continued their studies in college and university music programs. Her primary teaching goal is to cultivate in her students a deep love of and connection with music through the discipline of playing the piano. She has been invited to give masterclasses in various Canadian communities and maintains an active private piano studio in Baie D’Urfé, Quebec. She is a member of the Quebec Music Teachers Association and is affiliated with the Royal Conservatory of Music
Originally from British Columbia, Sylvia earned two Associate Diplomas (Victoria and the Royal Conservatories of Music) studying with Dr. Robin Wood. She continued her studies with Marc Durand in Montreal, where she completed a Concert Diploma (McGill University) and a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance (Université de Montréal).
Sylvia currently resides in Baie-D’Urfé, Québec with her cellist husband, Gerald Morin (Montreal Symphony Orchestra member) and their three children. Sylvia and Gerald enjoy performing together, occasionally along with flutist daughter, Stephanie and violinist daughter, Celia.
