Montreal Piano Studio
Dr. Alexandra Townsend is a gifted and motivating piano teacher. Balancing solid technical ability with individual musical expression, her students often achieve the highest rankings in RCM and McGill Conservatory examinations. Ranging in age from 4 to 84, her students include beginners, advanced-level amateur players, and piano teachers looking to improve their own playing and teaching.
An accomplished musician, Dr. Townsend studied piano performance at McGill University (B.Mus), the New England Conservatory of Music (M.Mus) and the University of British Columbia (DMA), with post-doctoral studies in London, England. Her principal teachers were Dorothy Morton, Patricia Zander, Robert Silverman, Jane Coop, and Christopher Elton.
For 15 years, Dr. Townsend was an instructor at McGill University where she gave lessons to conservatory piano students and developed and taught a course in piano pedagogy for undergraduates. She has also served as a clinician and festival adjudicator. She is currently a member of the Royal Conservatory of Music's College of Examiners and continues to teach privately at her Montreal Piano Studio.
